I am currently planning a trip to visit Bilar town in Bohol sometime towards the end of February or early May. While Bilar's man-made forest is part of the usual Bohol countryside tour, my impending visit will mainly be to arrange a client's educational visit at the Biodiversity Center of Bohol Island State University-Bilar Campus.
So while I'm there, I will not miss the chance to explore the places of tourist's interest in Bilar. And I'll be doing this using a rented motor bike from where I will be staying in Dauis, Panglao Island, Bohol, Philippines.
Bilar Municipal Building
The first order of the tour after my official visit at BISU-Bilar Campus shall be to drop by the Bilar Municipal Building and visit their local tourism office if there is any. They will best know the places of interest in Bilar and I might find some places that did not show up in my online research.
Bilar Rice Terraces
The early settlers of Bilar built rice terraces that yielded good harvests twice a year. While the world-renowned Banaue Rice Terraces will have to wait for my visit, I will take my chance to visit a lesser-known rice terraces in a quiet Bohol town.
Logarita Spring and Pool
The Logarita Swimming Pool is a favorite hangout for Bilar's locals. It's waters come from the Logarita Spring which is within the Rajah Sikatuna Protected Landscape. Oh, I can't wait to dip and chill into that cold spring water.
Man-made Forest
Part of the Rajah Sikatuna Protected Landscape that also covers several other towns, Bilar's man-made forest is a reforestation area planted by mahogany trees in the 1960's in an area that was once depleted forest. It is usually a part of the usual Bohol countryside tour. Many experts however believed that the biodiversity of this man-made forest which is mostly planted with mahogany trees is dead. This may be because mahogany is a tree that is not naturally found in the Philippines.
Simply Butterflies Conservation Center
Colorful butterflies are a feast for the eyes and that is what I am looking forward to during my visit to this butterfly garden that breeds around sixty(60) species of colorful butterflies by the hundreds. I'm now also fantasizing which souvenir items made from butterflies that I will be buying from their gift shop. This place also serves BBQ Buko or coconut barbecue, so I wonder how that tastes like too.
St. Isidore Labrador Parish Church
The oldest structure in Bilar, St. Isidore Labrador Parish Church was built between 1831 to 1870.
Tina-i sa Manok
The zigzag road that passes through Bilar town is known to locals as tina-i sa manok.
Valmoria Hill
Located in Sition Cambaliga in Barangay Cambigsi, Valmoria hill is testament to the bravery and heroism of Valmoria, a Filipino commander who fought against both the Spanish and Americans. The dug-out and tunnel leading to the ammunition factory is said to be still visible to this day.
Other Places
Should time permit, I might also visit Quezon Plaza, Magsaysay Park, the Regional Boy Scout Camp at Karajan, and the Regional Girl Scout Camp at Riverside.
