Tree Planting Tour at Bohol Biodiversity Center

The province of Bohol is currently developing ecotourism initiatives as alternative and as enhancers to the currently available tours such as the Panglao Island land tour and the Bohol countryside tour.

One of these initiatives is an educational tour at the Bohol Biodiversity Center at the Bohol Island State University-Bilar Campus. I came across this information while arranging a trip for a group of clients from Laguna recently. The group asked that a visit to the BBC-BISU-Bilar Campus be added to enhance their countryside tour.

The group from Laguna Technopark Environmental Management Group Multipartite Monitoring Team visited BBC-BISU-Bilar on 10 April 2015. They were first introduced the Bohol Biodiversity Center and its mission of addressing the biodiversity issues in Bohol such as repopulating the forests with endemic tree species which will in turn support the return of fauna into the landscape. After the lecture, a tour of the facility was done, and concluded with a tree planting activity that saw the group plant a total of 46 trees. Cebu Teambuilding Services also joined in the tree planting activity and planted one (1) tree. The good thing about this tree planting activity is that even when tourists are no longer staying after they plant a tree, the center assures them that the tree will be taken cared of.

We recommend this experience for tourists going to Bohol and who would want a novel set of touring activities aside from the usual tours. This endeavor by the Bohol Biodiversity Center to promote ecotourism is supported by a grant from the Japan International Cooperation Agency. The Bohol Biodiversity Center can be accessed through an access road from the highway in Bilar town along the route of the countryside tour. The access road is quite narrow but a tourist bus can fit in. Snacks may be served for a fee and can be arranged ahead before your party arrives.

    1. That's why they put up BBC to address that. Unknown to many, the Bilar man-made forest was a quiet one because mahogany is not a native tree so it is not a good habitat for animal life

    1. Thanks Bjorn! How so little we can give back to nature compared to how much it gives to us

  3. This is also another productive and sustainable way to tour around Bohol, not just to take pictures and leave your carbon footprint. The timing couldn't have been better since I am going to Bohol next month so I'd like to include this as part of my itinerary.

    1. The center will take the responsibility of growing the trees, that is their assurance to us because, certainly we cannot be there to watch it grow
